18.05.20 Y4 Home Learning

Good Morning Year 4. I hope you have had a restful weekend and are ready to enjoy the learning tasks this week.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week so look out for news items that will give you ideas about how to stay positive during this time.

Maths

This week your maths activities will focus upon telling the time. We will begin by looking at reading a 12 hour clock and looking at o’clock, half past and quarter to/past times, before moving onto reading the time in 5 minute intervals. We will then look at how to convert between 12 hour clocks and 24 hour clocks/analogue and digital clocks.

Today we are going to recap how to tell the time when the time is an o’clock, half past or quarter past/to time. Work your way through the two Power Points and then have a go at looking at the clocks on the worksheet and writing down the time that each clock shows.

Key spellings:

o’clock
quarter past
quarter to
half past

Remember, you can always practice telling the time in your house if you have a clock available!

English

This week’s English activities are al based around the book ‘The boy who grew dragons’ by Andy Shepard.

So to learn more about the book take a look at Andy’s introduction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8YwbyMNBag&list=PLd5OvpigUuUH6xXqFd8QfUQdD4RT1uFYr&index=1.    So as she said … if you could grow a dragon what would it look like? If you can’t watch the YouTube clip don’t worry. Take a look at the dragon pictures I have uploaded for you if you need some inspiration for your own dragon.

You need to sketch a picture of your dragon and label what you know about it. Think about: appearance (what it looks like), Diet (what it eats), Habitat (where it lives), Special powers and other interesting facts. You might want to draw more little pictures to help show details. Some of you might prefer to film yourself telling me all about your dragon instead of writing onto your picture. Remember to be as creative as you can. I look forward to seeing some of your designs.

Have a fantastic day

Mrs. Keyte
