Y4 Home Learning Tasks 12.05.20

Good morning Y4! I hope that you've had a wonderful start to your week and enjoy your home learning today.

Maths

This week your maths activities will focus again upon multiplication. We will be looking at the short multiplication method this week. This method is the most efficient way of working out multiplication questions that you cannot answer mentally. Remember, most efficient means quickest!

First, watch this YouTube video to recap how to use the short multiplication method. In this video, we are looking at three digit x one digit e.g. 432 x 7.

Now have a go at working out the following 3 digit x 1 digit e.g. 745 x 3 multiplication questions using the short multiplication method! The answers are located on the last page so that you can mark your own work!

English

What is a verb? (A verb is a doing word/action word e.g. walk, talk, sang, swam, thought.) Today, you will be working on identifying and using verbs within sentences. Click on the link below and work your way through the different activities that will help you to improve your confidence when using verbs. There are also some fact sheets that will give you lots more information all about verbs.

Then have a go at the worksheet! You need to find all of the verbs in the passages.
Challenge: Can you improve the verbs by using more impressive synonyms e.g. could you use the verb ‘sprinted’ instead of ‘ran.’

Spellings

Why not spend half an hour looking through your Y3/Y4 spelling words? These are a list of spelling words set by the government. You should be able to spell all of these words correctly by the time you leave Y4. Try to identify any words on the list that you struggle to spell and practice them. If you aren't sure of the meaning of some of the words, use an online dictionary like this one!
