Hello Y1! Here are this week's home learning activities:

Monday 12th October

English:

LO: To box up for purpose.

In this lesson, we adapt our previous 'boxing up' of the 'Honey and Trouble' story to accommodate our new recycled animal characters and make a character plan for one of our animal friends.

Maths:

LO: To recognise and describe repeating patterns.

In this lesson you will recognise and create shape patterns using 2-D shapes. You will continue patterns, identify missing shapes in patterns and describe them

Tuesday 13th October

English:

LO: To explore how writers create interesting characters.

In this lesson, we read a section of Miss Fryer's recycled 'Honey and Trouble' story as a writer, thinking of how the recycled character of Sister Python has been described, using our writing toolkit, before considering how our new main character speaks and writing independent sentences.

Maths:

LO: To use the language of position.

In this lesson you will learn the language of position and then use this language to solve position problems.

Geography:

LC: What are the landmarks in London?

In today's lesson, we join Miss Browne in learning about some of the famous landmarks in London. We have a go at placing them on a map and finish the lesson by writing a list of tourist attractions for people visiting London.

Wednesday 14th October

LC: Why do Christians say that God is a ‘Father’?

Today is a special day called RE day where will be learning about what different people believe. Religion means what people believe such as believing in God & going to a special building. We’re going to look at different buildings called places of worship which show us some differences.

Open the places of worship ppt.

Task 1: Draw and label a church.

Today we’re focusing on Christianity. Christians are people who believe in God, many people in England are Christians so we may see churches in our local area. Now we’re going to think about other Christian beliefs, some which we already know about such as Christmas & Easter. Open the Christian beliefs PPT.

Task 2: Draw a picture to show Christian beliefs.

Thursday 15th October

English:

LO: To show character clearly in a recycled story (Part 1).

In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to start writing a description of our recycled main character, focusing first on their physical appearance and dress.

Maths:

LO: To use the language of position, direction and movement (Part 1).

In this lesson you will practise giving and following directions using the language of direction.

Science:

LC: Which material is best for different objects?

In this lesson, we will be learning about materials and their properties. We will also learn why certain materials are used for specific purposes because of their properties. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Friday 16th October

English lesson 1:

In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to continue writing a description of our recycled main character, focusing on how their actions show their personality.

Lesson 2:

To show character clearly in a recycled story (Part 3).

In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to finish writing a description of our recycled main character, focusing on how their speech, thoughts and feelings, show us what they are like.

Maths:

LO: To use the language of position, direction and movement (Part 2).

In this lesson you will practise following directional instructions on a grid and create algorithms for direction.
