Hello Y3! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 12th October

English:

LO: To sequence and retell the build-up.

In this lesson, we will recap the job of a build-up. We will then watch and order the main events of the build-up. After that, we will recap fronted adverbials and use them to retell the build- up. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Maths:

LO: To apply number bonds within twenty to add and subtract.

Today we are going to be adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping by using our number bond knowledge

Task: Complete maths lesson 1 worksheet.

Geography:

LC: What happens when an earthquake occurs?

In this lesson, we are going to be looking at a case study, which means an example, of an earthquake. We will also learn about the causes of a tsunami.

Tuesday 13th October

English:

LO: To practise and apply knowledge of more suffixes: Past and present tense.

In this lesson, we will practise the rules associated with adding the suffix -ing. We will learn how to practise using the look, cover, write, check strategy and will test the words previously set to learn.

Maths:

LO: To use bar models to solve word problems.

Today we are going to be solving word problems using bar models

Wednesday 14th October

LC: How and why have some people served God?

Today is a special day called RE day where will be learning about Christian teachings and examples of people who have followed the word of God. You will investigate the prophets of the Old Testament and consider why these people chose to listen to God and how they put their beliefs into action.

Task 2: Sequence the story of Noah's ark using the sequencing cards.

Thursday 15th October

English:

LO: To generate vocabulary for the build-up

In this lesson, we will generate precise vocabulary to use in our writing. We will use this vocabulary to orally rehearse our writing of the build up. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Maths:

LO: Using bar models to solve word problems (Part 2)

Today we are going to be solving word problems using bar models

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about measures cities have taken to protect their people and the city’s infrastructure against earthquakes.

Friday 16th October

English lesson 1:

LO:  To write the build-up (Part 1).

In this lesson, we will explore some additional aspects of suspense writing, including ellipses and exclamation marks. Following shared writing, we will write the first part of our build up. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Lesson 2:

LO: To write the build-up (Part 2).

In this lesson, we will revise aspects of suspense writing and introduce questions to the reader. Following shared writing, we will complete our writing of the build-up and end our writing on a cliff-hanger. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Maths:

LO: Application Lesson

Today we are going to be applying all that we have learnt in this unit and practise answering different styles of questions

Task: Complete maths lesson 5 worksheet.

LC: What are the steps in the rock cycle?

In this lesson, we will learn each of the steps of the rock cycle. We will learn how igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock are all connected through a demonstration involving jelly beans! You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler for this lesson.
