Hello Y5! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 12th October

English:

LO: To write the first part of a build-up scene.

In this lesson, we will write the first section of the build-up of 'How to Train Your Dragon'. You will need your plan from lesson 4 to help you with your writing.

Maths:

LO: To use rounding to estimate.

In this lesson, we will apply our understanding of rounding to the nearest multiples of 10 000 and 1000 to estimate the answer to addition equations.

Task: Complete maths lesson 1 worksheet.

Tuesday 13th October

English:

LO: To plan the second part of a build-up scene.

In this lesson, we will plan the second section of our writing for the build-up scene in the film 'How to Train Your Dragon'.

Maths:

LO: To add using the column method.

In this lesson, we will learn how to use the column method in order to solve addition equations.

Task: Complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

History: Conversions to Christianity

LC: I can explain the work of some of the saints who were influenced in converting the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity and I know about some of the important Christian buildings that they founded.

In this lesson you will learn about how the Anglo-Saxons were converted to Christianity in Britain. Open and follow the PPT.

Task: Complete the ‘Anglo-Saxon Conversion to Christianity’ activity sheet.

Wednesday 14th October

LC: Why is it sometimes difficult to do the right thing?

Today is a special day called RE day where will be learning about Christian beliefs and teachings about sin and temptation.

Task 1: What is the moral of The Ugly Duckling?

Task 4: Open the ‘Parable of the Prodigal Son’ (Luke 15: 11-32) PPT. Compare God's reaction to Eve to the dad's reaction to his son.

Thursday 15th October

English:

LO: To write the second part of a build-up scene.

In this lesson, we will write the second section of the build up of 'How to Train Your Dragon'. You will need your plan from Lesson 8 to help you with your writing.

Maths:

LO: Subtracting using the column method.

In this lesson, we will learn how to use the column method in order to solve subtraction equations. We will also learn how to represent equations using bar modelling.

Task: Complete maths lesson 3 worksheet.

Science:

LC: What impact do gears, levers and pulleys have on forces?

In this lesson, we will first aim to understand the purpose of simple machines. We will then focus on gears, levers and pulleys to find out how they work and how they can be useful. We will also complete some questions throughout the lesson which will help us check our understanding.

Friday 16th October

English lesson 1:

LO:  To write the second part of a build-up scene.

In this lesson, we will write the second section of the build-up of 'How to Train Your Dragon'. You will need your plan from Lesson 8 to help you with your writing.

Lesson 2:

LO: To edit your build-up writing.

In this lesson, we will edit our writing from Lessons 6 and 9. We will practise the skills of searching for errors and improving vocabulary choices.

Maths:

LO: Solving multi-step addition and subtraction problems.

In this lesson, we will be applying the addition and subtraction strategies that we have learned to word and real-life problems.

Task: Complete maths lesson 5 worksheet.
