Hello Y6! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 12th October

English:

LO: To write the main body of my letter.

In this lesson, we will use our planning to write the second paragraph of the main body of our letter.

Maths:

LO: To use the formal written method of long division to solve appropriate calculations.

In this lesson, we will use long division to complete equations.

Task: Complete maths lesson 1 worksheet.

Tuesday 13th October

English:

LO: To plan and write the closing of a letter.

In this lesson, we will re-read our writing so far in this unit, consider what we should include in our closing, and write the closing paragraph.

Maths:

LO: To solve problems involving division with remainders.

In this lesson, we will solve division equations that involve remainders.

Task: Complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

History: Key events

LC: Can I describe what happened during some key events from World War II and order events on a timeline?

In this lesson you will learn about a variety of key events from World War II. Open and follow the PPT.

Task: World War II Timeline- Complete the ‘World War II Timeline’ activity sheet. Put the events in chronological order. Can you add any additional information of your own?

Wednesday 14th October

LC: How do Christians mark the ‘turning points’ on the journey of life?

Today is a special day called RE day where will be learning about the church as a community of believers and to examine how rites of passage reflect their commitment and relationship with God.

Shared Human Experience

Task 1 and 2: Draw your life chart, record key celebrations or remembrance services you and your family have held.

Beliefs and Values

Task 1: Identify important religious features of the story ‘baptism of Jesus’.

Task 2:  Draw Jesus following the art tutorial.

Task: Write an explanation on both baptism and confirmation, then draw and explain the meaning of each Christian symbol.

Task: Draw an image of yourself. Underneath record a short passage consolidating all of your ideas based on the topic 'Search for Personal Meaning'.

Thursday 15th October

English:

LO: To edit our letter.

In this lesson, we will look at some modelled writing and edit it. You will then edit your own writing from this unit. In this unit, we will be discussing issues of racism and discrimination in Britain. For some people this will be be a sensitive topic. If that applies to you, you may want to do this lesson with a trusted adult nearby who can support you.

LC: What impact are humans likely to have on life in the future?

In today's lesson, we will learn about some of the impacts that humans have on life on this planet. We will look at pollution, global warming, hunting and deforestation. We will learn what happened to the dodo bird and about some amazing organisations that are working hard to ensure that other species do not become extinct.

Friday 16th October

English lesson 1:

LO:  To research the positive impact of the Windrush community on modern Britain.

In this lesson, we will learn more about the events which occurred after the Windrush brought immigrants to the UK from Jamaica, and how this has impacted modern Britain.

Lesson 2:

LO: To develop reading for pleasure

In this lesson, we will explore examples of genre in literature and consider how reading helps build empathy. We will explore the different kinds of reading we do each day and create a 24-hour reading log.

Maths Lesson1:

LO: Represent remainders in different ways depending on the context of the problem (Part 1).

In this lesson, you will learn to interpret the remainder using the context of the problem being solved.

Task: Complete maths lesson 4 worksheet.
