Hello Y2! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 2nd November

English: News report.

LO: To listen to a news report.

In this lesson you will listen to a news report about Apollo's missing item. We will then map the story together using drawings to show the different parts of the news report.

Maths: Exploring calculation strategies.

LO: To use number bonds when subtracting.

In this lesson, you will be subtracting numbers within 20.

Task: Complete maths lesson 1 worksheet.

English:

LO: To tell a news report from memory.

In today's lesson we will use our story map to create an action to represent each part of our news report. Once we've done this, we will then have a go at speaking the story, using the story map and actions to help us if we need them.

Maths:

LO: To use doubles to calculate near doubles.

In this lesson, you will be using your doubling knowledge to support with calculations within 20

Think about what the term ‘aspiration’ means. Introduce ambitions, hopes, dreams, goals as synonyms.  We can have aspirations that reach to the end of the day, and ambitions about what we want to be when we’re grown up.

Mind map your short-term aspirations e.g.

History:

Why did Guy Fawkes want to blow up the houses of Parliament?

In this lesson, we will learn why Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up the houses of Parliament. You will hear and map the story of the Gunpowder Plot. We will learn about when and why the conspirators attempted to kill King James I and what happened to Guy Fawkes afterwards. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Wednesday 4th November

English:

LO: To deepen a news report through role play.

In this lesson we will take on the role of different characters and think about how we can change our voice, facial expressions and body language to demonstrate this character to an audience. We will focus mainly on a police officer interviewing Apollo about the crime.

Maths:

LO: To use the 'make ten' strategy.

In this lesson, you will use the 'make ten' strategy to solve calculations.

Task: Complete maths lesson 3 worksheet.

History:

Who was Guy Fawkes?

In this lesson, we will learn who Guy Fawkes was and why he was important in the conspiracy to blow up the houses of Parliament. You will learn the meaning of the word 'conspiracy' and you'll find out about some of the other conspirators. You'll also find out whether the plan was successful and what happened to Guy Fawkes afterwards. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Thursday 5th November

English:

LO: To use past tense verbs.

In this lesson we will explore how the suffix -ed can be added to regular verbs to make them past tense. We will then use some of these past tense verbs in sentences linked to our news report.

Maths:

LO: To understand that the = symbol represents equivalence.

In this lesson, you will gain an understanding of the = symbol.

LC: What did the Earth look like 300 million years ago?

Today we will look at how the world is now and compare to how it looked 300 million years ago. Open and follow the attached PPT.

Task 1: Create a word bank of all of the words/terms that we will need over the next two weeks.

Task 2: Cut out the 7 continents then piece them together as accurately as possible to create an image of the Pangaea.

History:

LC: How do we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day?

In this lesson, we will learn how some people celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. We will learn about bonfire night and then we will look at the different ways in which it is celebrated. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Friday 6th November

English:

LO: To find key information in a text.

In today's lesson we will meet Retrieval Rabbit who will help us to understand how we find information in a text to answer questions. We will read sections of our news report and then answer some retrieval questions together.

Maths:

LO: To choose calculation strategies to solve calculations.

In this lesson, you will use various strategies to solve calculations within 20.

Task: Complete maths lesson 5 worksheet.
