# Home Learning Tasks WC 21.9.20

Hello Y3! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 21st September

English:

This half term we will be learning how to write our own adventure story based on the book ‘The BFG’ by Roald Dahl.

LO: To identify the main characters and the setting in a visual narrative.

In this lesson, we will identify the main characters and the setting in a visual narrative based on a book by Roald Dahl. We will then sketch and label the setting with ambitious adjectives. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book, or some paper and a pencil. A ruler would also be helpful to have for labelling the sketch.

Maths:

This half term we will be learning how to add and subtract 2-digit numbers, using the regrouping and adjusting method.

LO: To make 10.

Tuesday 22nd September

English:

LO: To investigate suffixes: Past and present tense.

In this lesson, we will explore the rules associated with adding the suffix -ed. 10 spelling words will be explained and set to learn.

Maths:

LO: To add two-digit numbers and ones with regrouping.

In this lesson we will learn how the make ten strategy can help us add two-digit numbers with one digit numbers.

Task: complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

Topic- Geography:

This half term we will be learning about  earthquakes and volcanoes.

LC: What is the earth made of?

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the structure of the earth, what the earth is made of and where volcanoes and earthquakes occur and why.

Wednesday 23rd September

English:

LO: To explore simple sentences.

In this lesson, we will recap what a verb is, define a simple sentence as a main clause that makes sense on its own and write our very own simple sentences. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper and a pencil.

Maths:

LO: To add two-digit numbers with regrouping.

In this lesson we will learn how to add two, two-digit numbers by partitioning one number and partitioning both numbers.

Thursday 24th September

English:

LO:  To sequence and retell the opening.

In this lesson, we will recap word class. We will then watch the opening scene of The BFG again and sequence and retell the main events. Finally, we will generate adjectives to describe how Sophie is feeling during the opening. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Maths:

LO: Adding two-digit numbers involving regrouping

In this lesson we will learn how to add 2-digit numbers by partitioning one or both numbers

Task: complete maths lesson 4 worksheet.

Science:

This half term we will be learning about rocks and the rock cycle.

LC: How is igneous rock formed?

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about igneous rock. We are going to learn about the structure of the Earth, how to recognise igneous rock and some of the uses of igneous rock. We will also learn how igneous rock is made, using ice and chocolate as a model! You will need a piece of paper and a pencil for this lesson.

Friday 25th September

English:

LO: To develop a rich understanding of words associated with night-time.

In this lesson, we will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Maths:

LO: To use the ‘Make 10 strategy’ to subtract ones.

In this lesson we will learn how to use the "Make 10" Strategy to help us subtract ones from 2-digit numbers
