# Home Learning Tasks WC 21.9.20

Hello Y6! Here are this week’s home learning activities:

Monday 21st September

English:

This half term we will be learning how to write a diary entry based on the Windrush.

LO: To build knowledge of the historical context of the Windrush.

In this lesson, we will develop our knowledge of the Empire Windrush, which sailed hundreds of migrant people from Jamaica to England in 1948. In this unit, we will be discussing issues of racism and discrimination in Britain. For some people this will be a sensitive topic. If that applies to you, you may want to do the rest of this lesson with a trusted adult nearby who can support.

Maths:

This half term we will be learning about multiplication and division.

LO: To represent decimal numbers in a variety of ways.

In this lesson, we will represent decimal numbers pictorially.

Task: complete the maths lesson 1 worksheet.

Tuesday 22nd September

English:

LO: To investigate suffixes: Plurals

In this lesson, we will explore the rules associated with adding plural suffixes. 10 spelling words will be explained and set to learn.

Maths:

LO: To represent numbers  up to 3 decimal places.

In this lesson we will explore a variety of ways of representing numbers up to three decimal places.

Task: complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

Topic- History:

This half term we will be learning about World War II. You will learn when and why World War II began and find out about the key individuals and countries involved. You will learn important facts about the Holocaust and investigate events that were key turning points in the war, such as the Battle of Britain and the German invasion of Russia.

LC: To explain why World War II began and order events from early World War II on a timeline.

Open the PPT ‘the outbreak of war’ and work through the slides.

Task: Complete the early World War II events timeline activity Sheet. Read the Early World War II Information Sheet and use the information to create and order your own timeline.

Wednesday 23rd September

English:

LO: To identify the features of a diary entry.

In this lesson, we will discuss the PALLP and features of a diary entry. We will also identify these features in a model. In this unit, we will be discussing issues of racism and discrimination in Britain.

Maths:

LO: To multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 involving decimals.

In this lesson, we will learn the procedure for multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

Task: complete maths lesson 3 worksheet.

Thursday 24th September

English:

LO:  To generate vocabulary linked to emotions.

In this lesson, we will look at a model diary entry from another character's perspective. We will then generate emotions vocabulary and corresponding show not tell phrases to use in our writing.

Maths:

LO: To multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 within context.

In this lesson, we will apply our understanding of multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 to the context of measure.

Task: complete maths lesson 4 worksheet.

Science:

This half term we will be learning about humans and animals over time.

LC: What is the Theory of Evolution?

In today’s lesson we look at Darwin’s observations from his trip on HMS Beagle. We will then put all his observations together to see how Darwin came up with his theory. His theory is called evolution. We will apply this new knowledge to two other examples of evolution, mice and giraffes.

Task: Complete the end of lesson quiz.

Friday 25th September

English:

LO: To develop a rich understanding of words associated with feeling stressed or scared.

In this lesson, we will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Maths:

LO: To understand the terms 'common factor' and 'common multiple' as properties of a number.

In this lesson, we will explore factors and multiples of numbers, including identifying common factors and multiples.
