Hello Y1! Here are this week's home learning tasks:

Monday 28th September

English:

LO: To box up for purpose.

In this lesson, we 'box up' our story of 'Honey and Trouble', focusing on how the monkey feels at different points in the story, and what this tells us about his character.

Maths:

LO: To count back in ones to subtract.

In this lesson, we will practice subtracting by counting back in ones. We will do this with the support of a number line.

Geography:

LC: What can you find in the United Kingdom?

In today's lesson we join Miss Browne in learning about some of the famous features from the four different countries within the UK. We learn about both natural features and human features such as capital cities. We will write a fact file for each country with some of the key information from the lesson.

Tuesday 29th September

English:

LO: To explore how writers create interesting characters.

In this lesson, we read a section of our 'Honey and Trouble' story as a writer, thinking of how the woman has been described, using our writing toolkit, before adding to our monkey adjective list and writing independent sentences.

Maths:

LO: To link subtraction equations to problem solving contexts.

This lesson will explore how subtraction can be linked to problem solving contexts. We will be applying the previously learnt strategies to solve problems.

Task: Complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

Science:

LC: What are objects made from?

In this lesson, we will be learning about materials and their properties. We will be investigating different objects and identifying what material is used to make them. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Wednesday 30th September

English:

LO: To develop character in a story.

In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to start writing a description of the monkey, focusing first on his physical appearance and dress.

Maths:

LO: To recognise the relationship between addition and subtraction.

This lesson will explore how addition and subtraction are linked, and how a part whole relationship can produce related facts.

Task: Complete maths lesson 3 worksheet.

Geography: London in the United Kingdom

LC: What is the history of London?

In today's lesson, we join Miss Browne in discovering how the city of London was founded and looking at the three main different groups that settled in London. We then learn about how London was almost destroyed twice! We will create a timeline of our learning so that we can easily see the changes that took place in London over time.

Thursday 1st October

English:

LO: To develop character in a story.

In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to continue writing a description of the monkey, focusing on how his actions show his personality.

Maths:

LO: To explore problems involving addition and subtraction.

In this lesson, we will problem solve to complete missing number triangles! We will practice adding and subtracting to find the answers.

Task: Complete maths lesson 4 worksheet.

Science:

LC: How can I describe an object?

In this lesson, we will be learning about different properties of materials. We will be identifying different objects and describing the properties of the materials they are made from. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

Friday 2nd October

English:

Maths:

LO: To explore further problems involving addition and subtraction.

In this lesson, we will problem solve to uncover secret jumps! We will practice adding and subtracting to find the answers.
