Hello Y3! Here are this week’s home learning tasks:

Monday 5th October

English:

LO: To write the second part of the opening.

In this lesson, we will watch and order the second part of the opening. We will also look at ways to show not tell. Following shared writing, we will write the second part of the opening. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil. Happy writing!

Maths:

In this lesson we will learn how to use the "Round and Adjust" strategy to help us solve addition equations.

Task: Complete maths lesson 1 worksheet.

Geography:

LC: How does an earthquake occur?

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about why tectonic plates move, what an earthquake is and why they occur.

Tuesday 6th October

English:

LO: To investigate more suffixes: Past and present tense.

In this lesson, we will explore the rules associated with adding the suffix -ing. 10 spelling words will be explored and set to learn.

Maths:

LO: To round and adjust with subtraction.

In this lesson we will learn how to use the "Round and Adjust" strategy to help us solve subtraction equations.

Task: complete maths lesson 2 worksheet.

Wednesday 7th October

English:

LO: To explore compound sentences.

In this lesson, we will recap what a simple sentence is and define what a compound sentence is. We will learn what the three coordinating conjunctions are and when to use each one appropriately. We will also practise writing compound sentences using all three coordinating conjunctions. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper and a pencil.

Maths:

In this lesson we will learn how to add near doubles.

Task: Complete maths lesson 3 worksheet.

Science:

LC: How do the rocks on our Earth's surface change?

In this lesson, we will learn how rocks change. We will look at rocks as big as mountains and as small as a grain of sand and learn the processes that form each. We will look at erosion, weathering and the movements of tectonic plates. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil for this lesson.

Thursday 8th October

English:

LO: To write the second part of the opening.

In this lesson, we will recap and write compound sentences. We will recap key vocabulary and use it to orally rehearse ambitious sentences to include in our writing. Following shared writing, we will carry on writing the second part of the opening. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil. It would also be useful to have your writing from last lesson next to you. Happy writing!

Maths:

LO: To used mixed Strategies for Addition and Subtraction.

In this lesson we will solve addition and subtraction equations using a variety of strategies.

Task: complete maths lesson 4 worksheet.

Geography:

LC: What happens when a volcano erupts?

In this lesson, we are going to be looking at a case study, which means an example, of a volcanic eruption. We will consider the immediate and long-term effects of the eruption and we will think about the reasons why people choose to live near volcanoes.

Friday 9th October

English:

LO: To develop a rich understanding of words associated with night-time.

In this lesson, we will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Maths:

LO: To solve addition and subtraction word problems.

In this lesson we will solve addition and subtraction word problems.
