Monday 5th October

English:

LO:  To identify the features of a letter.

In this lesson, we will learn about the PALLP and features of a letter. We will also practise finding the features in an example.

History: The Role of Women.

LC: I can find out about women’s wartime jobs and describe what they entailed in detail.

In this lesson you will learn about the importance and significance of the role of women during World War II. Open and follow the PPT.

Task 1: You’re Hired! You have received an Offer of Employment Letter for a wartime job. Research the job and complete the ‘Job Description’ activity sheet.

Task 2: Propaganda Posters. Design your own propaganda poster on the ‘Propaganda Poster’ activity sheet to advertise one of the jobs.

 

Tuesday 6th October

English:

LO: To further build knowledge of the historical context of the unit.

In this lesson, we will further develop our historical knowledge by learning about what life was like for the West-Indian immigrants after they arrived in Britain in 1948.

LC: Which organisms lived during each era of time?

In this lesson, we will learn what the fossil record has taught us about the history of organisms that have existed on our planet. We will learn what a geologist is and what they can tell us about the organisms that have lived during each geological era of time. For this lesson you will need a piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler.

Wednesday 7th October

English:

LO: To write the opening of a letter.

In this lesson, we will use our planning and contextual knowledge developed over the past few lessons to write the opening paragraph of our diary entry. In this unit, we will be discussing issues of racism and discrimination in Britain.

LC: Can I explain what the Holocaust was and describe some events that happened?

In this lesson you will learn about the events of the holocaust in World War II. Open and follow the PPT.

Task 1: Investigating the Holocaust. Investigate the effects of the Holocaust and complete the Holocaust Report Activity Sheet.

Task 2: Lessons to Live By. Create your own poster using the ‘Lessons to Live By Poster’ activity sheet to promote one of the five values you have identified as important.

 

Thursday 8th October

English:

LO: To plan the main body of my letter

In this lesson, we will use the vocabulary and contextual knowledge from earlier in this unit to structure and plan the main body of our letter. In this unit, we will be discussing issues of racism and discrimination in Britain. For some people this will be be a sensitive topic. If that applies to you, you may want to do this lesson with a trusted adult nearby who can support you.

In this lesson, we will look at how humans have changed over time and use the theory of evolution to explain these changes. Learning how to make and use tools, shelter, fire and language has enabled humans to spread all over the world. We will start to look at the impact that humans have had on some species of plants and animals. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil for this lesson.

Friday 9th October

English:
