Year 4 Activities 19/5/20

Good Morning all - Tuesday today.

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's reading task - I'm loving the book 'The Boy who grew dragons' - I can't believe i've not read it before now! Today brings the first chapter and another creative design tasks in English. Have fun!

So today's tasks ...

Maths

This week your maths activities will focus upon telling the time. We will begin by looking at reading a 12 hour clock and looking at o’clock, half past and quarter to/past times, before moving onto reading the time in 5 minute intervals. We will then look at how to convert between 12 hour clocks and 24 hour clocks/analogue and digital clocks.

Today we are going to look at telling the time in 5 minute intervals e.g. 10 past 3 / 25 to 5. Work your way through the Power Point and then have a go at writing down the time that each clock shows on the worksheet!

Fancy a game to test your new skills

So now you have created your own dragon let’s get stuck into the book. Take a read of Chapter One. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frxWWOh0cow&list=PLd5OvpigUuUH6xXqFd8QfUQdD4RT1uFYr&index=2

As you will see it is here that Thomas comes across the mysterious dragon fruit in his Grandad’s garden. They are both surprised at the sight of the fruit as is looks like no other fruit they have seen before. Think back to your dragon from yesterday – what do you think its dragon fruit might have looked like?

Your task today is to design a fruit for your dragon (from yesterday). Think about what it looks like and the tree it grows on. Write a short paragraph to describe the moment you found your fruit. Try to use as many adjectives to describe it’s appearance as you can. Think about:

  • Where was the tree growing?
  • How did the fruit catch your eye?
  • What did the fruit look like?
  • How did you remove the fruit from the tree?

Enjoy your day :)
