BRAND NEW Phonics Resources!

Phonics is a huge part of the Year 1 Curriculum.

It is a way of teaching children how to read and write as it helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another. Knowing the sounds of individual letters and how those letters sound when they’re combined will help children decode words as they read.

Whilst at home, it is so important that children continue to practise their reading as often as possible. We are aware though that given the current circumstances, children may not know all of their sounds as they may not have covered them all by the time all schools were closed in March.

The Department for Education has recognised this and has made online phonics lessons for the lockdown period.

These lessons follow the Letters and Sound Scheme that we use in school so the children can revise/learn new sounds that we would have covered in class. The YouTube page has lessons for both Reception (Phonics phase 3&4) and Year 1 (Phonics phase 5) so your child may need to dip into both the Reception and Year 1 lessons depending on where they were up to when school closed.

Lessons for Reception will be uploaded onto the YouTube channel at 10am and Year 1 lessons at 10.30am every weekday for the duration of the Summer Term.
