VE Day Celebrations 2020
Today is the 75th anniversary of VE day. This stands for Victory in Europe day which marked the end of fighting in World War II. At 3pm on 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made a very important announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end.
Everyone in Britain was so happy that the fighting had stopped that they held huge celebrations and parties out in the street! People dressed in red, white and blue; and they sang and danced and ate lots of party food! Have a little look at the pictures below- they look like they're having a wonderful time don't they?!
Despite having to stay safe at home, lots of people around Britain are going to remember that amazing day and celebrate the fighting coming to an end all these years on!
We have come up with some activities that you could have a go at if you and your grown ups wanted to have a party at home- Mrs Sharkey has already had a go at some of the activities as you can see from her fabulous pictures!
- Decorate your windows with bunting decorated in red, white and blue like Mrs Sharkey has done
- Make some invitations and invite the grown ups in your house for a tea party at home or in the garden
-Bake some cakes (you could even make something from the War Time cook book in the downloads below!)
- At 3pm, you could stand at your front door and give your neighbours a big smile and join in with them as they say
"To those who gave so much, we thank you."
I've uploaded some extra bits if you would like some more activities. Have lots of fun and make sure you take some pictures if you can and email them to us! We would love to see what you got up to!
Enjoy Year 1! x
