Y4 Home Learning Tasks 11.05.20
Happy Monday everyone - I hope you all enjoyed your bank holiday weekend. I took the chance to bake some very British scones which i enjoyed with lots of jam, and I also made some stunning VE day bunting for my window too.
Maths
This week your maths activities will focus again upon multiplication. We will be looking at the short multiplication method this week. This method is the most efficient way of working out multiplication questions that you cannot answer mentally. Remember, most efficient means quickest!
First, watch this YouTube video to recap how to use the short multiplication method. *In this video, the teacher refers to ‘ones’ as ‘units.’

Now have a go at working out the following 2 digit x 1 digit e.g. 31 x 3 multiplication questions using the short multiplication method! The answers are located on the last page so that you can mark your own work!
English
Well it’s the start of a new week and this week we will be focusing upon some grammar and punctuation. Today, we will be looking at inverted commas. (Remember, 'inverted commas' are just 'speech marks.') We have looked at inverted commas in our English lessons during Spring term, so hopefully, you will all remember what to do, but if not, don’t worry, here are the main features of dialogue (speech):
- Inverted commas (" ") only go around the part of the sentence that the character is speaking.
- Always use a capital letter straight after you open your inverted commas.
- Make sure you finish your dialogue with a piece of punctuation e.g. question mark, comma or exclamation mark, before you close your inverted commas.
For example,
"I cannot wait to go to the beach on Saturday!" Lucy exclaimed excitedly.
"I wish the weather was nicer today," Josh sighed sullenly.
Amy bellowed ferociously, "Mum, Tom has just scribbled on my picture!"
Have a go at the attached worksheet and see if you can punctuate the sentences using inverted commas.
Story Time
If you fancy enjoying a story, below is a link to an audiobook of David Walliams' The World's Worst Children - Bonnie Bossypants. Snuggle up on your sofa and listen to this hilarious story!

Fancy something creative - today is Internation 'Eat what you like' day so what better excuse to design your Dream Meal - maybe the one you will have to celebrate the end of Lockdown with your friends. Draw and label your meal and all the extra little bits you will have with it.
I hope you enjoy your home learning today Y4, have a wonderful week!
