Junior Democracy Debate

Two of our Year 6 children Thomas Fairclough and Chloe Holtby went to the Town Hall to take part in a junior democracy debate. The children arrived and were split up into coloured groups, then they were taken off to discuss important changes they would like to see brought in to make St.Helens a nicer, safer place to live.

Within their groups, the children created a presentation on a specific area they wanted to cover and then came into the  Council Chamber to present in front of other children, staff and the Mayor 'Councillor David Banks', Lady Mayoress and an invited chair person from a High School.

The children had to answer questions regarding their chosen presented topic and had to stand up for what they believed in, putting across to the other debate members how they thought it could change St.Helens. After a vote by all other groups a winning group was decided then all children were awarded certificates from our important guests.

A fantastic day was had by our two pupils and were a credit to the school with their impeccable manners. Thomas even performed an Anti-Smoking rap for his group which was enjoyed by all. 😀
